winningthelaural had a good point about my last post. Cleaning my room does not clean my heart. My main point was that I do what I do because I think what I think and I think what I think because of who I am. What I do affects my surroundings and the fruit of my actions in those surroundings is what God has used to show me what is in my heart.

So I've been thinking about music standards. Not as much as I have been thinking about freedom, but the two go together, so I'll start here.
We could obviously argue for ages about certain aspects of the whole debate. I am sure each one of us comes at it from our own perspective and experience. The overarching rule of our life, however, should be to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. The questions that I find important are as follows:
What is my motivation for playing and listening to any music?
Is there a Biblical basis for making a moral judgment about music (is there righteous and unrighteous music)?
What room (if any) is there for personal preference?
Is the idea of worship styles Biblical?
What relationship does all of this have with our idea of our freedom in Christ and our relationship with God?

Does it matter?

Any other questions people?

What is my motivation for playing and listening to any music?

Asking myself what is my motivation for anything really helps to get down to the roots of things and I think what the Lord is most concerned with, even over WHAT I listen to. And wow, those are REALLY good questions! I heard one friend say that music is a form of art and that people bring their own associations with it. A case in point is how one can look at a picture of a mother and child and think it's really sweet, while another, whose mother abandoned her when she was young can look at the same picture and shudder. While I think there are some really good points here, I have a hard time believing that God doesn't give us some Biblical guidelines. I will be looking forward to hearing what others have to say. Thanks for broaching this subject...I haven' really kept up on it myself.

Much to say on the topic - music.  I reserve future space here to comment.  Can't do right now, but I expect to.  Thanks for opening up the topic.
